Corus Cogifer produces switches and crossings for East London Line expansion
03 Jan 2008
Corus Cogifer is supplying the switches and crossings for the high profile East London Line expansion project and is scheduled to deliver 34 layouts between February and August this year.
The project will improve the existing connections for South East, East and North East London as well as providing an interchange to the Jubilee Line.
Corus Cogifer is manufacturing the layouts using new BS113A rail. The layouts are split between timber bearers within depot and concrete bearers and blocks within the main running lines.
Project Delivery Manager, Paul Canwell, said phase 1 of the line expansion project was geared to upgrading and lengthening the existing line and would result in an improved service using longer trains over a 25 km route. He added: “Along with the proposed track extensions, the whole supporting infrastructure will be upgraded – including stations and structures, signalling and rolling stock.”
In addition, Corus Cogifer is to supply 26 new layouts over the next 18 months for the DLR 3-Car extension programme. This programme is designed to increase the number of passenger cars per train.
