Corus Cogifer supplies Croydon Tramlink solution with UK success

06 Dec 2007

Corus Cogifer, working with its sister company and tramway specialist, Kihn, has supplied Croydon Tramlink with two groove rail turnouts which represent ‘a first’ for the UK.

Service Manager at Corus Cogifer, David Walters, explained that the turnouts were the first to be supplied in the UK using the complete Cogidur solution for tramways.

The solution involves the computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining of blocks of hard steel for both the switches and the crossings.  The switches and crossings are assembled and welded in the factory to reduce the number of joints which need to be welded on site.

Said David: “Since supplying Croydon Tramlink with these turnouts, we have received more orders from Croydon and an order from the Nottingham tram network for a lift-over crossover which will reduce the noise and vibrations currently causing problems at one location on the line.”
